Book Review: 21 Insights for 21st Century Creatives by Mark McGuinness

September 4, 2018 by azsamadlessons Leave a Comment

This new book by Mark McGuinness comes at the right time. A prolific writer, poet, coach and podcaster he has been helping creative professionals for the past 21 years.

As a subscriber to his e-mail newsletter, I’ve reaped a lot of benefits from his creative insights over the years. I loved Mark McGuinness’s previous book Productivity for Creative People and his new book ranks highly in my books as well.

Mark has summarised 21 very important insights (many that I’ve personally observed and strongly agree with) for creatives who wish to have a thriving and growing career in today’s world. Some may seem logical and some may seem oversimplified but the truth is Mark speaks about the reality of things.

One of my favourite insights is number 8 where he describes the four types of work that creatives do. He explains why the riskiest kind of work is the one that will benefit creatives in the long run.

If you are a creative, you should read this book now and get the essence of it. Personally, I have already made this required reading for all my private music students. Strongly recommended, get it now. Thank you Mark for writing this!

Pros: Practical real world advice, tips and insights.
Cons: None
TLDR: If you’re a creative, get this book and read it. Especially since the book is currently available as a gift from the author, you really have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

[Submissions for Review Consideration]

  • Are you an author who wrote a jazz, guitar or music book?
  • Have you created a DVD or an online video course or subscription based website?
  • Would you like me to review your book/course?

Please send me a message at azsamad2 at gmail.com with:

For courses: a link to the course/video/product + access info etc.
For books: a link to the book (Dropbox) or PDF attachment (if it’s small) for review consideration.

Depending on whether I dig the book/course, I’ll let you know if I do plan to review it!

I cannot guarantee a review for every submission & if I’m not too into it, I may opt not to review it. I mean, it’s better to get a good review that for me to write a bad review just because it’s not a match for the kind of stuff I dig right? :p

NOTE: All reviews reflect my honest personal opinion so be aware that I will point out both cool Pros and Cons that I see in the work. You dig? 🙂
