Book Review: Everything for Everyone: The Radical Tradition That Is Shaping the Next Economy by Nathan Schneider

March 6, 2024 by azsamadlessons Leave a Comment

The Times They Are A-Changin’…. they always are!

And this book is actually something out from my usual choices for books. The main reason was for me to learn more about whether cooperatives were something that I would be interested to explore, or if they would be helpful for me as a musician.

Overall, the book is interesting since I had very little knowledge about the subject. It was also great to read about how cooperatives work in different businesses and situations, as well as how it started and evolved.

This book took a long time for me to finish reading. But, I’m glad I read it.

Probably the biggest takeaway for me was how having a different core philosophy changes the whole approach to a business. Being worker-centric, or democratically operating an entity really changes the dynamics of everything.

Still, we’re dealing with human beings, and with the right combination of people, things can go great. And… in other situations it might not.

In the end, I’m not likely to start a cooperative with anyone I know (at least for now) but it sure gave me more insight to why anyone would do this. Interesting stuff!

Get it on the BookXcess website here or at one of their physical bookstores.

Pros: Detailed book about cooperatives, the history and how they work now relative to technology, modern society, the internet and beyond.
Cons: Book was written in 2018, so some of the companies and examples feel different now as they have changed especially since the post-pandemic era.
TLDR: If you’re curious about whether cooperatives might be a way to approach things (rather than a typical top-down business or strictly capitalistic model, this book might be a good introduction to all that.

[Submissions for Review Consideration]

  • Are you an author who wrote a jazz, guitar or music book?
  • Have you created a DVD or an online video course or subscription based website?
  • Would you like me to review your book/course?

Please send me a message at azsamad2 at gmail.com with:

For courses: a link to the course/video/product + access info etc.
For books: a link to the book (Dropbox) or PDF attachment (if it’s small) for review consideration.

Depending on whether I dig the book/course, I’ll let you know if I do plan to review it!

I cannot guarantee a review for every submission & if I’m not too into it, I may opt not to review it. I mean, it’s better to get a good review that for me to write a bad review just because it’s not a match for the kind of stuff I dig right? :p

NOTE: All reviews reflect my honest personal opinion so be aware that I will point out both cool Pros and Cons that I see in the work. You dig?
