This video from the My Music Masterclass website is one of many videos from jazz guitarist Lage Lund.
Lage begins with his personal fingering choices for 2-octave minor triads in all inversions. Then he shares his thoughts on barre chords and the logic of his triad fingerings for single note playing.
Lage continues with different practice ideas to help you master the 2-octave triad fingerings in all keys, across the entire fingerboard. He also shows how the same exercise that could be applied to dominant 7th arpeggios.
The video continues with Lage showing how he plays horizontally across the fretboard and how he favours certain fingerings to allow this to happen easier. Talking about the difference of technique and expression, Lage shows how he uses alternate picking technique expressively.
Lage also goes into his take on economy picking and how he uses certain picking patterns for open voiced triads. There’s also an interesting part where we find out what Lage learned from studying George Benson’s playing style.
To close the video, Lage talks about legato playing and the differences in how he approaches legato playing for ascending and descending melodic passages.
In conclusion, this is a deceptively short 31-minute video that packs a lot of valuable insights into Lage’s playing style. Personally, I got a lot of mileage by rewatching the video. Each time, there’s more things that I notice in Lage’s playing. I recommend this video for intermediate and advanced players who are open to transcribing relevant examples directly from the video. That’s where I feel the most value in the video is.
Pros: A good video to discover how Lage Lund plays the guitar & how you can apply his concepts into your playing.
Cons: There is no PDF with transcribed fingering notated for this video. You have to transcribe the fingerings yourself if you want to get more out of the video.
TLDR: If you enjoy Lage Lund’s playing & want to understand the logic to his fingering choices, get this video.

Depending on whether I dig the book/course, I’ll let you know if I do plan to review it!
I cannot guarantee a review for every submission & if I’m not too into it, I may opt not to review it. I mean, it’s better to get a good review that for me to write a bad review just because it’s not a match for the kind of stuff I dig right? :p
NOTE: All reviews reflect my honest personal opinion so be aware that I will point out both cool Pros and Cons that I see in the work. You dig?
