Folk Fingerstyle Strumming Lesson

June 17, 2015 by azsamadlessons Leave a Comment

This is a lesson on folk fingerstyle strumming. This technique is something I learned from listening to guitarists like Elliot Smith, Gillian Welch, David Rawlings and The Carter Family.

You’ll learn how I incorporate this style into my regular arpeggio laden, classical guitar influenced playing. This is a very useful technique to add more textures into your current fingerstyle technique.

Do you have a question about guitar playing? Please leave a comment below & I might cover it in a future post. =)

[NOTES]

There are 3 patterns that you’ll learn in this lesson:

Pattern #1: Bass Down (Thumb and index)

Pattern #2: Bass Down Up
a) Thumb and index
b) Thumb and index + thumb

Pattern #3: Bass Up Down Up
a) Thumb and index
b) Thumb and thumb+index + thumb

You’ll also learn how to play the A section of “Serendipity In Serendah”, a song from my new album “Poskad Dari Malaysia”.

You can listen to the entire song here:

If you like the song, you can buy the single (or entire digital album) on my bandcamp page. For collectors, get the limited edition handmad CD (individually numbered & autographed to you) here. We ship worldwide! =)
