Music Review: Hot Kitchen by FUAD

December 17, 2024 by azsamadlessons Leave a Comment

FUAD, self-described as “a sibling duo band from (super) quaint Bukit Jelutong” has been creating a buzz over the past few years, probably making the most noise with their 2022 debut album, “Dispositions”.

This new single is more of a vibe between the layers of electric guitar and drum beats that plays around youthful love and romantic confusion. This is the kind of track that you probably wanna play on the car stereo while driving in an empty Damansara highway on the way to somewhere, probably running away from adulting.

I particularly love just the overall feeling of the track, probably more than their last single back in April, Wait and See which was cool but had that whole surprise complete stop of an ending which was like, “woah”.

The song definitely has this “let’s play this track on forever repeat for I don’t know why” kind of feel, which is not a very intellectual smart way of describing it at all.

Anyhow, if you haven’t listened to FUAD before and want to just be in an Elliot Smith meet 90s indie film meet a cross of being in a coffee shop in either Portland or some small secret place in the Mission, San Francisco – this is probably it.

About FUAD:

FUAD is a Malaysian Alternative Indie sibling duo from the (super) quaint suburbs of Bukit Jelutong, Shah Alam. Despite the varying tastes in music and 10-year age gap between Lisa Fuad and Arief Fuad, they found a (very) thin line of similar influences and decided to self-produce their music in their very own home. The range of their genres vary, lean more towards Dream Pop, Alternative Rock, and Twee Pop.

Their debut album Dispositions, is a culmination of tracks with a ‘coming-of-age’ theme encompassing songs that talk about adventures in life, dealing with loss, as well as personal & social struggles coming into adulthood.

The latest singles, Wait and See and Kopi continue to resonate their signature lush sounds with dreamy vocals while also taking a more mature songwriting approach.

Their musical influences stretch from Lisa’s love for Simon & Garfunkel, Neutral Milk Hotel, Fiona Apple, Slowdive, and Elliott Smith to Arief’s appreciation for Muse, Alvvays, Camera Obscura, Devics, and Priscilla Ahn.
