When I first heard clips of Prawit Siriwat’s compositions, I instantly knew I wanted to review this record.
Let’s Play Sometime, a 4-track EP by guitarist/composer Prawit Siriwat and bassist Daniel Durst, captures a 15-year musical friendship built on patience, trust, and deep listening. Blending jazz, folk, acoustic music, and free improvisation, the record features three Siriwat originals alongside a tender interpretation of “Moon River.”
The EP opens with the piece Night Walker which has kind of a mix of 16-bit RPG video game score vibes, folk and Renaissance faire textures. The melodic lines are absolutely beautiful and the bass line provides enough low end to strenghten the song even more.
The second track, Water Park goes into textural arpeggiated territory with beautiful bass movement coupled with tasteful rhythmic hits. This reminds me of 1980s Windham Hill era of fingerstyle meets Blue-era Joni Mitchell, and subtle Pierre Bensusan nuances. The melodic lyricism in the solo section is particularly nice as well. There’s interesting harmonic movement that combines sounds from different styles which create a different harmonic universe in this piece.
The third track, Nature Walk feels like an extension of the sounds we’ve heard so far. At this point, Prawit Siriwat is crafting a personal sound that is hard to reduce to one label or genre. If I had to give it a name it probably feels like acoustic chamber not jazz since there other influences come across strongly.
Closing the EP, we have the only cover song with an interesting take on Henry Mancini’s Moon River. This performance has hints of Bill Frisell-ism but not enough to easily say it’s pure Frisell.
Let’s Play Sometime is one of the most uniquely charming guitar-and-bass duo recordings I’ve heard in years. Its strength lies in its seamless blend of genres and the understated, conversational musicality of both players. If you’re curious about a jazz meets folk record, I would recommend giving this EP a listen.

Musicians say “let’s play sometime” constantly. More often than not, it remains a passing promise. For guitarist and composer Prawit Siriwat and bassist Daniel Durst, it became a 15-year musical friendship.
Their new EP, Let’s Play Sometime, traces that connection from its beginnings in casual dorm room jam sessions to a duo language built on patience, trust, and deep listening. Featuring three Siriwat compositions and a tender interpretation of “Moon River,” the record draws from jazz, folk, acoustic music, and free improvisation. At its core are two musicians who have spent their musical lives learning how to move together.
The opening “Night Walker” is quiet and cinematic, reflecting on the uneasy beauty of the human relationship with the natural world. “Water Park” shifts pace with driving acoustic fingerpicking and a sense of bright, restless momentum. “Nature Walk,” first heard on Siriwat’s solo acoustic EP, is transformed by Durst’s warm bass tone and the duo’s intuitive give-and-take. The EP closes with “Moon River,” offered as a nostalgic and unguarded moment of lyricism.
Throughout the EP, Siriwat and Durst sound less like soloist and accompanist than two longtime friends picking up a conversation right where it left off. Let’s Play Sometime captures the quiet trust of a musical connection built over years.
Prawit Siriwat is a guitarist, composer, and improviser whose work bridges jazz, folk, acoustic traditions, and creative improvisation. He has developed a lyrical and exploratory voice on the guitar, with work that ranges from solo acoustic music to collaborative projects rooted in close listening and spontaneous interaction. Daniel Durst is a Los Angeles-based bassist known for his warm tone, melodic sensitivity, and deeply responsive approach to ensemble playing. His work as a collaborator is rooted in patience, support, and improvisational awareness, allowing the bass to function as foundation and to inspire points of departure. Durst brings a grounded, expansive presence shaped by clarity, trust, and quiet intensity.
