Philosophy

First… an introduction for context:

I’ve attended three in-person Nick Johnston guitar clinics in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia over the years and have enjoyed each time.

So when I saw this new release, I was excited to check it out. So what is this?

According to the website, in this release you get:

So does it deliver? The short answer is yes!

Basically this feels like a luxurious guitar clinic experience. The video is beautifully shot and edited and you get transcriptions of everything that Nick played. If you’ve gotten any of the Sheet Happens Publishing transcription books, you will know how amazing those transcriptions are. In addition to the transcription, you also get jam tracks so that you can learn the songs.

The thing about a Nick Johnston guitar clinic is that you can really sense how much he cares about answering honestly and explaining his process as best as he can. Now, with this new video many more can experience the wonderful energy and teaching of Nick Johnston.

In conclusion, I recommend this to any Nick Johnston fan who has ever attended his guitar clinic and said, “I wish there was a good recording of that”… or any fan that has not attended his guitar clinic but wish they could feel like they were in the same room with Nick.

Get it and watch it now.

Pros: Beautifully recorded and presented, a wealth of musical insights, good exercises and professional transcriptions. Kudos to the entire Sheet Happens Publishing team for being so detailed about the quality of EVERYTHING.
Cons: Notation is ONLY in tablature with rhythm notation… I kind of wish there was still standard notation as well.
TLDR: For any fan of Nick Johnston’s playing and teaching, this is a nice premium experience that highlight both Nick’s amazing playing and his eloquent teaching style.
