Back in 2013, I met Nile Rodgers via his Red Bull Music Academy event in Kuala Lumpur. I felt extremely fortunate to be able to ask him some advice on his playing approach, picking technique and watch him play up close right in front of me. Here are two clips that Yin recorded of the session, followed by some of coolest masterclass footage + videos that I’ve found really helpful for me to improve my approach in funk/R&B settings inspired by Nile’s playing.
