People are often divided into two camps:
You’re either the kind of person who believes in the whole Tony Robbins/The Secret mindset and hustle crew OR…
…you believe that people are just lucky because they were born into a rich family or had advantages that made it possible for them to do anything they ever wanted without the fear of failing.
With this book by Ash Ali & Hasan Kubba, they have managed to summarize how it’s not just mindset or luck but a combination of these elements that they call “The Unfair Advantage”.
The MILES framework outlines it as:
- Mindset
- Money
- Intelligence and Insight
- Location and Luck
- Education and Expertise
- Status
Essentially what the book gives you is a way to identify what are the specific advantages that you might have (but not realize) and how you can use these advantages to develop your startup (or any business endevour).
I personally have been thinking about this topic for years but have never quite found a concise way to explain how I feel about it. In this book, I feel the authors have managed to summarize elements of business that I have not seen described before.
It’s easy to frame certain success stories in an oversimplified manner, but this book is a great framework to more accurately understand why some people are more successful. Hopefully by reading and applying the lessons in this book, more people will be able to leverage their strengths and unfair advantages in a positive way.
In short, I recommend this book to anyone starting their own business or project. It’s a fun read and well written. Strongly recommended.
Pros: Good book, good concepts and frameworks with relevant stories to help illustrate the ideas.
Cons: Final part of the book (The Startup Quick-Start Guide) seems a bit light (maybe too quick?) compared to the the main bulk of the book.
TLDR: A good book for entrepreneurs, startup founders and new business owners.

[Submissions for Review Consideration]
- Are you an author who wrote a jazz, guitar or music book?
- Have you created a DVD or an online video course or subscription based website?
- Would you like me to review your book/course?
Please send me a message at azsamad2 at gmail.com with:
For courses: a link to the course/video/product + access info etc.
For books: a link to the book (Dropbox) or PDF attachment (if it’s small) for review consideration.
Depending on whether I dig the book/course, I’ll let you know if I do plan to review it!
I cannot guarantee a review for every submission & if I’m not too into it, I may opt not to review it. I mean, it’s better to get a good review that for me to write a bad review just because it’s not a match for the kind of stuff I dig right? :p
NOTE: All reviews reflect my honest personal opinion so be aware that I will point out both cool Pros and Cons that I see in the work. You dig?
