Over the years, I’ve listened to Stevie Ray Vaughn’s recording off and on. Although I’m not the biggest fan, I’ve loved his amazing rhythmic, lyrical and intense playing. Hearing Stevie play is always a treat and his style has influenced so many players including current stars like John Mayer.
This instructional video by Chris Ochoa is a valuable resource for fans of the style. Released by NW e Talent, this video appears to have been released several years ago & another video from Chris simply called “33” is slated to be out soon.
The package includes:
- a 52 minute video (available in standard definition & high definition video files)
- a WAV file – tribute audio track called “In Memory Of Stevie Ray Vaughan” played by Chris
- 5 SRV Style Practice Backing Tracks in various tempos
Going through the material, I can really feel how much Chris has invested in absorbing Stevie’s style. He includes details like specific hammer-on & pull-off phrases, strumming technique, scale choices & licks represent Stevie’s style. There’s a lot to digest in the video with 42 musical examples (most with performance & slowed down examples) and also a breakdown of Stevie’s version of Little Wing from the album “The Sky is Crying” .
In conclusion, if you like Stevie’s style & need help learning it – I would recommend this video.
Pros: Great material, demonstrated by a fan of Stevie’s style.
Cons: No written material, notation or TABS. Chris doesn’t talk throughout the video, only text on screen to describe what’s happening in addition to the visual demonstrations.
TLDR: If you’re a fan of Stevie Ray Vaughn’s style but never really analysed his playing, this video can be a useful way to discover key elements of his playing. The video & audio quality is great and there’s a lot of cool stuff to learn.

- Have you created a DVD or an online video course or subscription based website?
- Would you like me to review your book/course?
Please send me a message at azsamad2 at gmail.com with:
For courses: a link to the course/video/product + access info etc.
For books: a link to the book (Dropbox) or PDF attachment (if it’s small) for review consideration.
Depending on whether I dig the book/course, I’ll let you know if I do plan to review it!
I cannot guarantee a review for every submission & if I’m not too into it, I may opt not to review it. I mean, it’s better to get a good review that for me to write a bad review just because it’s not a match for the kind of stuff I dig right? :p
NOTE: All reviews reflect my honest personal opinion so be aware that I will point out both cool Pros and Cons that I see in the work. You dig?
