I’ve been dealing with anxiety much more recently. So, when I noticed a copy of this book in my living room, I thought why not read this. This short review is to document my initial thoughts on this book. For context, if you ended up here via a google search — my dad is a writer & has A LOT of books in the house. That’s how I found this book.
Kiekegaard is a Danish philosopher regarded to be the first existentialist philosopher. This book was first released in 1844. The earliest English translation was in 1944. This was 100 years after the original Danish version.
The book is about sin, Adam & Eve, the perspective of religion & how human interpret anxiety. The whole idea that anxiety is not to avoided but embraced is interesting to me.
This book made me reflect on the idea of identity, sin, anxiety, freedom of choice & how we grow as humans.
The language is complex. So much of it requires prior knowledge of the other topics referenced. As a hub for the topic, this is great for anyone about expanded reading. Books like this to me always feel like a window into a huge universe.
In conclusion, this book opened up my mind about the topic. It made me look up more YouTube videos to go deeper into this topic. I’m no philosophy or psychology major so I don’t know much about his previous work. But, coming in straight into the book to embrace the source material was a good way to spend my morning.
Pros: Examines a lot of core issues with being human & anxiety.
Cons: Difficult to understand if you’re new to Kierkegaard’s writing.
TLDR: If you’re curious about anxiety about the possible role of anxiety, this is a worthwhile read.

Depending on whether I dig the book/course, I’ll let you know if I do plan to review it!
I cannot guarantee a review for every submission & if I’m not too into it, I may opt not to review it. I mean, it’s better to get a good review that for me to write a bad review just because it’s not a match for the kind of stuff I dig right? :p
NOTE: All reviews reflect my honest personal opinion so be aware that I will point out both cool Pros and Cons that I see in the work. You dig?
