Have you ever wanted to learn jazz guitar?
Do you wish you could improvise those beautiful jazzy & bluesy melodies you heard on your favorite recordings?
Or have you ever dreamed of jamming out on an ES-335 jazz guitar or maybe even a beautiful L5 Gibson?
Since I first heard Wes Montgomery and his album, Smokin’ at the Half Note – I was mesmerised by the sound of jazz guitar. That and hearing Joe Pass for the first time on a VHS Tape at my old music college. The first time I learned a jazz standard was when I learned Erroll Garner’s Misty and accompanied my friend Taheera who sang it with a mix of influences from Sarah Vaughan & Ella Fitzgerald.
Years later, I would play at festivals in Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, Hong Kong & the United States playing jazz, and even including some Malay Jazz – music from composers like P. Ramee & Jimmy Boyle in my setlist.
I went to Berklee College of Music & studied with the guitar instructors I admired such as Mick Goodrick, Garrison Fewell, Bret Willmott, Jon Damian, Tim Miller, Jim Kelly, Ben Sher and David Tronzo — and also teach at Berklee’s Summer Guitar Sessions.
Now, I help aspiring jazz guitarists to discover the joy of jazz as I have when I first played the opening chords to Misty years ago.
Currently I teach 1-on-1 Jazz Guitar Lessons for beginners, intermediate & advanced guitarists who are passionate to get into this style of music.
You get guidance on how to learn jazz chords, navigate through jazz chord progressions, find out how to improvise, create jazz licks that sound great and also subtle details like fingerings that suit the style of jazz you’re into, be it the classic sounds of Wes Montgomery, more contemporary fusion jazz players like Tim Miller, Frank Gambale or even more pop-oriented smooth jazz guitarists such as Lee Ritenour and George Benson.
What you get is a shortcut to save you time from randomly scrolling through guitar forums, countless YouTube videos and the crazy amount of disorganised jazz guitar lessons online.
With your 1-on-1 lessons, you get the attention you deserve & a step by step guide following your pace to learn jazz guitar even faster & more fun.
It’s already a difficult style of music so why not get someone who has already done the homework for you?
For the past 25 years, I’ve studied with some of the finest jazz guitarists in the world, and even worked with them via my work as an in-house writer, copywriter & video editor for the guitar education website, Mike’s Masterclasses.
I’ve also reviewed over 150 videos, books & courses right on this website, many of them covering jazz guitar topics. I’ve also created jazz guitar courses such as Yummy Jazz Guitar Chords, Guitar Chord Power-Up Pack & Motives Maximizer at Mike’s Master Classes and wrote eBooks such as Jazz Guitar Licks & Etudes 1 & 2, 60 Minor Pentatonic Jazz Guitar Licks and 60 Beginner Jazz Guitar Licks.
