I’ve been a fan of Dan Mumm’s playing since I first discovered him via his instructional material years ago. At that time, I really wanted to understand sweep picking and economy picking so much that I checked out as many courses, video and books on the technique.
Years later, I still love to learn and refine my technique but now I’m not as obsessed as I was before.
So, where does this video course “Sweep Picking Mastery” fit into the picture?
Well, as someone who’s bought and studied so much material on sweep picking, I wish I got this video much earlier on. There’s an elegance to how Dan Mumm explains both the technique and fingerings which makes it more digestable.
In my experience, if you want to learn guitar technique, it’s important to study with someone who has clarity not just in playing the technique musically, but also knows WHAT and HOW MUCH to explain.
This is Dan Mumm’s strength.
In just 43 minutes and 21 pages of a PDF booklet, Dan manages to simplify this technique that was so elusive to me years ago.
In short, I wish I had this years ago.
The Instant Download includes:
- Sweep Picking Mastery: The Ultimate Course – full Video Guitar Lesson
- Complete PDF eBook (with tabs for each pattern found in the video course)
- 40 Bonus Guitar Pro Tabs (covering all of the patterns found in the video course)
- Backing Track for the Neo-Classical Sweep “Song”
There’s no filler content in this course. Everything is there for a reason & the reason is to help you master this technique.
If I had to pick on one thing, it would only be that Dan doesn’t spend as much time explaining and demonstrating the sweep picking movement. He does demonstrate it but it’s much shorter than some other videos that I’ve studied (a good example of a more in depth explanation of the mechanics would be material from UK guitarist Ben Higgins). That being said, Dan’s explanation is still enough I feel for most people. You also get clear video footage of him playing all the examples at full tempo and slower tempos which helps you learn the material.
In conclusion, this is one of the most focused sweep picking courses I’ve studied. Dan keeps it concise and by doing so makes the course manageable to consume and use. This is the work of a virtuoso in every sense of the word, both as a player and a teacher.
Pros: Clear teaching, very concise & straight to the point.
Cons: None.
TLDR: If you want to master arpeggio-based sweep picking within a rock/metal/neo-classical context, this is a good video to buy.

- Have you created a DVD or an online video course or subscription based website?
- Would you like me to review your book/course?
Please send me a message at azsamad3 at gmail.com with:
For courses: a link to the course/video/product + access info etc.
For books: a link to the book (Dropbox) or PDF attachment (if it’s small) for review consideration.
Depending on whether I dig the book/course, I’ll let you know if I do plan to review it!
I cannot guarantee a review for every submission & if I’m not too into it, I may opt not to review it. I mean, it’s better to get a good review that for me to write a bad review just because it’s not a match for the kind of stuff I dig right? :p
NOTE: All reviews reflect my honest personal opinion so be aware that I will point out both cool Pros and Cons that I see in the work. You dig?
