The first thing is this book is absolutely beautiful.
Being a designer, Chris has presented his ideas in an aesthetically minimalist way that helps the ideas comes across even better.
Chris doesn’t hide his influences and mentions different writers and business thinkers that have influenced his approach to his creative work & his life.
It seems to me that work and life is one unified world to Chris.
If you’ve ever heard Chris talk (either live or on YouTube, Twitter Spaces, Clubhouse or any virtual event on Zoom), the book captures the essence of how Chris thinks.
Personally I feel that the book is a good way to get a compact dosage of some good Chris Do vitamins for your mind.
The book itself is divided to 7 sections:
- Relationships
- Creativity
- Beliefs
- Pricing
- Negotiation
- Marketing
- Mindset
As we go through the book, we get to see Chris quote and reference people like Tony Robbins, Dan Lok, Chris Voss, Gary Vaynerchuk, Seth Godin & Sir Ken Robinson among others. Chris also includes personal stories and even parenting thoughts that give us insight into his personal world view.
Some of the lessons are told via stories, some are written almost like motivational prose… each topic has it’s own vibe, but overall it’s all pure Chris Do.
The pricing chapter on its own could easily be a whole masterclass or talk – Chris seriously shares some important pricing concepts that I learned via many different books, sessions and videos. To see all the lessons in one place is just a “wow” moment.
And… although there is a Mindset chapter, the whole book actually delivers mindset related content throughout.
All this is immensely valuable… and the fact that Chris writes in a Seth Godin meets Derek Sivers kind of concise way makes each chapter a delight to digest.
Talking about delight… the physical book is beautiful.
Although I first enjoyed the book via the digital version (which is great), when I had the physical copy in my hands, it was really an added immersive experience. Amazing ideas are cool, but amazing ideas in a beautifully presented work of art is something extra special.
In conclusion, the book is a good mix of inspiring anecdotes & actionable advice in Chris’s straight to the point style.
Pros: Beautiful book, great lessons and well presented.
Cons: None
TLDR: If you love how Chris teaches & want to have a souvenir of signature Chris Do wisdom, get this book.
