You might have seen Chris Greenwood’s FB ads of his various online music courses or via his podcasts. This book, Music Marketing & Promotions Guide is a 33-page physical book & eBook that introduces 21 marketing strategies to promote singles.
The book is a full-colour fun looking guide with a Song/Album Launch Checklist including different kinds of videos you can create, e-mail list and how to use podcasts as a way to promote yourself & your music.
In the social media section, he includes practical platform specific tips including how frequently to post on each platform & the reasons why. If you’re unsure of how to approach marketing on different social media platforms, this section might be very helpful.
The next sections talk about getting covered in the press, using live video to engage with your fans. To me, this part was very basic but for newbies to live video streaming, these guidelines can be helpful.
In the 10x challenge section, Chris gives specific steps for serious artists dedicated on building their fanbase. Tips include suggested steps for getting shows, connecting with bigger artists, building social media following & getting press. Some of these tips may seem very obvious but having them laid out clearly is useful. Concepts and ideas are one thing but actually applying these steps are what will create more success (or potential of success).
In the following Action Steps section, Chris gives us a step by step so that the book’s content doesn’t seem overwhelming.
In the last 11 pages, Chris gives a 4-phase process to get your song charted on Billboard. This is the process that he used to hit the Billboard charts. Reading the steps, it’s obvious to me that it’s a clear systematic process – it’s just whether an artist is committed to take the steps necessary for this.
Closing the book, Chris includes some additional resources and inspiring words for the reader.
In conclusion, what you’re probably wondering is whether this book is any good. My take on it is that although not complete or large by any means, the book provides a lot of practical actionable steps to promote your next song or album. This is not a theory based book but is an action based one. In that regard, this is a worthy addition for any musician who is new to marketing and social media (as a promotional channel) in general.
Since going through this book, I’ve discovered more authors and musicians who are teaching similar topics. Some are more up to date with their strategies (depending on what you’re looking for). However, for the price (at USD$4.97 right now), it’s worth getting. The hours of bonus videos, eBook version and audiobook add to the value of this book. As an introduction to marketing for musicians, this book is very handy.

Depending on whether I dig the book/course, I’ll let you know if I do plan to review it!
I cannot guarantee a review for every submission & if I’m not too into it, I may opt not to review it. I mean, it’s better to get a good review that for me to write a bad review just because it’s not a match for the kind of stuff I dig right? :p
NOTE: All reviews reflect my honest personal opinion so be aware that I will point out both cool Pros and Cons that I see in the work. You dig? đŸ™‚
