Book Review: Four Patterns of Healthy People by Matt Norman

October 11, 2020 by azsamadlessons Leave a Comment

Recently, I’ve been reading a lot more books on personal development. It seems that most of the issues we usually face as adults stem from earlier trauma or experiences when we were younger. So, when I received this book, the timing was perfect.

Matt Norman’s Four Patterns of Healthy People was helpful for me. Matt’s writing was accessible & easy to follow. Some books are either too dry (academic or prescriptive). Some are too personal that it’s more autobiographical than helpful.

With Matt’s work, it struck a good balance. This book combines both his personal experiences & his current approach to his life.

He talks about 4 patterns:

1. Thought patterns
2. Relationship patterns
3. Ego patterns
4. Operating patterns

These 4 patterns can be good or bad for you, depending on how you process your daily life. I found it helpful that he had exercises at the end of most of the chapters. This helped that me with takeaways & things to think about next.

The book would be a good fit for anyone struggling with work-life balance. Especially right now with the issue of COVID-19 and work from home, it can be difficult to find balance.

I liked the writing and the flow of the book the most. Some parts were difficult to read because they exposed situations and challenges that I faced. On my first read, I wanted to have an understanding of the book. Now when I reread the book, I am going through each exercise to digest it better.

I was familiar with some of the things he discussed in the book but the way Matt explained it was helpful to me. I haven’t read many others books dealing with this topic, at least in the way Matt approached it.

In conclusion, I would recommend this book to anyone even curious about this topic.

Pros: Good writing style & useful exercises.
Cons: Can be challenging to read if you’re facing similar issues.
TLDR: Useful book for anyone finding work life balance & meaning.

I received an advance review copy of this book from Archangel Ink. Thanks Rob!

[Submissions for Review Consideration]

  • Are you an author who wrote a jazz, guitar or music book?
  • Have you created a DVD or an online video course or subscription based website?
  • Would you like me to review your book/course?

Please send me a message at azsamad3 at gmail.com with:

For courses: a link to the course/video/product + access info etc.
For books: a link to the book (Dropbox) or PDF attachment (if it’s small) for review consideration.

Depending on whether I dig the book/course, I’ll let you know if I do plan to review it!

I cannot guarantee a review for every submission & if I’m not too into it, I may opt not to review it. I mean, it’s better to get a good review that for me to write a bad review just because it’s not a match for the kind of stuff I dig right? :p

NOTE: All reviews reflect my honest personal opinion so be aware that I will point out both cool Pros and Cons that I see in the work. You dig?
