I love the whole neo-soul guitar style. There’s a beauty to it & the lyrical aspect of the style is very attractive.
Jack’s Modern Chordal Playing video is one of the finest videos explaining this style. I remember discovering it & after just seeing the teaser video, I knew I had to buy it.
Since buying this video when it first came out (a few years ago), I recently decided to revisit it after watching Jack’s recent video announcing why he’s been off social media (and why’s he back). It was such a strong video that I could relate to in many ways and also inspired me to look back at Jack’s instructional video (this one).
The video is very well produced and the accompanying TABS are very helpful. The material is also is in very logical bite-size chunks that makes it easy to study the video in short sessions.
Jack’s attention to detail & amazing fluid technique shines in this video. Love his playing & we are very fortunate to have a chance to study his playing in this video.
In conclusion, if you dig this style of music, this video is worth checking out!
Pros: High quality instruction, well presented and recorded.
Cons: Jack uses the same chord progression for the entire video, this might get repetitive for some viewers. On the other hand, it also makes it easier to absorb the material, so this might not be a con after all.
TLDR: If you love the whole R&B or neo-soul style, this is an AMAZING video to invest in. Jack Gardiner is a brilliant player and he has put together an epic instructional video.
